The San Antonio Current is seeking a creative, strategic, and highly organized Marketing Manager specializing in social media to grow the Current’s audience, strengthen its presence in the San Antonio community, and execute compelling campaigns across our digital platforms.

About the Role The San Antonio Current is seeking a creative, strategic, and highly organized Marketing Manager specializing in social media to grow the Current’s audience, strengthen its presence in the San Antonio community, and execute compelling campaigns across our digital platforms.

This role will lead the Current’s organic social media strategy and day-to-day execution while managing sponsored content purchased by advertisers for placement on San Antonio Current social channels. The Marketing Manager will also develop integrated campaigns supporting the Current’s events, promotions, membership initiatives, newsletters, and overall brand.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Strategy and Content Develop and manage the San Antonio Current’s social media strategy across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and emerging platforms. Create, edit, schedule, and publish engaging platform-native content, including short-form video, graphics, carousels, Stories, and promotional posts. Collaborate with the editorial department to create a strategy to translate editorial coverage into compelling social content while preserving the Current’s voice. Maintain a comprehensive social media calendar incorporating editorial priorities, events, promotions, sponsored campaigns, and organizational initiatives. Monitor trends, platform changes, local conversations, and audience behavior to identify timely content opportunities. Manage community engagement, including comments, direct messages, tags, and user-generated content. Track platform performance and use audience insights to improve reach, engagement, referral traffic, and follower growth.

Sponsored Social Content Fulfillment Manage the execution of advertiser-sponsored content purchased for placement on San Antonio Current social platforms. Serve as the primary internal point of contact for sponsored social campaigns, coordinating with sales, clients, designers, photographers, videographers, and independent creators. Review campaign requirements and ensure all posts, Reels, giveaways, and other deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule. Create or coordinate polished sponsored content that serves the advertiser’s goals while remaining appropriate for the Current’s audience and platforms. Support paid social campaigns, including campaign setup, audience targeting, optimization, and performance tracking. Training or certification may be provided as needed. Prepare campaign recaps and performance reports for the sales team and advertisers. Maintain accurate fulfillment calendars, campaign records, approvals, and creative assets.

Event and Brand Marketing Under leadership direction, develop integrated marketing campaigns for San Antonio Current events, including social media, email, print, digital, partnerships, and grassroots promotion. Coordinate content capture and real-time social coverage before, during, and after events. Oversee fulfillment of social and promotional deliverables included in event sponsorship packages. Support marketing for reader revenue and brand initiatives, including Friends of the Current, Best of San Antonio, special issues, newsletters, contests, and promotions. Help develop campaign messaging, promotional calendars, marketing collateral, and audience-growth initiatives.

Community Partnerships and Content Creation Build relationships with local businesses, cultural organizations, nonprofits, creators, influencers, and community partners. Identify opportunities for cross-promotion, content collaborations, ticket giveaways, on-site activations, and community visibility. Represent the San Antonio Current at community events, Current-produced events, content shoots, and partner activations. Maintain a working knowledge of San Antonio’s cultural calendar, neighborhoods, businesses, and emerging trends.

Qualifications Four or more years of experience in social media, marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field Demonstrated experience developing and executing social media strategies for a brand, publication, cultural organization, or consumer-facing business Strong short-form video, copywriting, editing, and visual storytelling skills Experience creating content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other major platforms Strong project-management skills and the ability to manage multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously Experience executing sponsored content, paid social campaigns, or advertiser deliverables Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong knowledge of San Antonio’s culture, neighborhoods, businesses, events, and communities Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across editorial, sales, events, and design teams

Preferred Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience Experience with Meta Business Suite, Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, social scheduling platforms, and Google Workspace preferred Photography, video production, or on-camera experience is a plus
